Venus and Peers through to ATP doubles final in Antwerp
Michael Venus and John Peers will chase their third ATP doubles title together in the final of the Antwerp Open. The world number 10 ranked Kiwi and his Australian partner John Peers have beaten Spaniard Pablo Andujar and Dutchman Sander Arends 6-3 6-4 in 1 hour and 4 minutes. They played the big points well and saved six of seven break point chances against their serve while they converted three of their eight opportunities to break serve.
Venus and Peers who have won ATP 500 titles in Dubai and Hamburg this year, will have to wait to find out who they face in the final with 5th seeds Joran Vliegen and Sander Gille yet to find out their semi-final opponents.
Regardless of the result in the final Venus and Peers have consolidated sixth place in the race to qualify for next month’s ATP Tour Finals in London. They have next week’s ATP 500 tournament in Vienna and the Paris Masters 1000 to confirm their places in the elite eight team field for London.
Meanwhile Marcus Daniell’s red-hot run of form has come to an end. Daniell and his Austrian partner Philipp Oswald have been beaten in the semi finals of the ATP tournament in Cologne 6-4 6-3 in 1 hour 12 by French Open champions Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies.
