The Junior Masters Points Race Underway for 2024

Wednesday, 28 February 2024

The Junior Masters Points Race is underway around the country with several more tournaments happening in the coming months.

The Points Race is organised into Tier 2 and Tier 3 tournaments and are designed to give aspiring juniors in the 12, 14 and 16/u age groups a clear events pathway across the country.

“These tournaments represent a great pathway to any young tennis player, whether they aim to become a pro player, or just want to enjoy their sport in a competitive environment,” Flo Perret, Events & Operations Manager for Tennis Central, says.

Flo explains that the Tier 2 tournaments give those players who missed out on qualifying to the National Junior Championships the perfect opportunity to compete at a high level against their peers from around NZ.  Tier 3 events represent an entry way into competitive tennis for those juniors who play Interclub tennis but want more competitive opportunities.

Bevan Johns, General Manager Tennis Canterbury believes that Tier 2 and Tier 3 tournaments are critical to the growth of competitive tennis players and to the growth of tennis in Canterbury.

“These tournaments provide our juniors the opportunity to compete against the best players from around the country and the chance to create new friendships and socialise with players they compete against in interclub competition,” he says.

“The comradery and the “buzz” generated at these events are great for the tennis community and also very appealing to our junior players who don’t always experience this kind of atmosphere at interclub level or just during their weekly training.”

To add to this, the Waikato Bays Region are bringing back their Tier 2 event for the first time since the pandemic.

“I’m excited to see this event back on the calendar for the first time since we had to cancel the events throughout the pandemic” says Wayne, the WTT Regional Tennis Development Manager. “We’ve teamed up with taylor’d events and Solinco to deliver this event, who will deliver an enjoyable experience for all players to join.”

The Junior Masters Points Race count points from all Junior Masters Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 tournaments from 1st August to 30th August the following year. The Tier 1 Kiwi Indoor Junior Championships is the final event calculated in the Points Race each year. Learn more about how the points are calculated here.

This year the Junior Masters Finals are being held in Hamilton 26-28 October 2024.

Entries are now open for several Points Race tournaments. Head to the Tennis NZ Event Calendar for list of all current Junior Masters Events.
