Routliffe and Venus on court and in action at US Open

Wednesday, 31 August 2022

Two New Zealanders are on court on day three of the 2022 US Open as both Michael Venus and Erin Routliffe play their first round doubles matches.

Sixteenth seeds Routliffe and Pole Alicja Rosolska are second on court 10 from 11am US time (3am NZT)) against Germany’s Vivian Heisen and Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa.

Venus and Tim Puetz (Germany) are third on court 10 against Kazak Andrey Golubev and Spaniard Pedro Martinez.

The wind is expected to calm a little after the first two days of strong late afternoon breezes. The temperature at the Billie Jean King Tennis Centre is expected to reach 29 degrees.

Additionally Venus is seventh seed in the mixed doubles with Australian Ellen Perez who has a WTA doubles ranking of 26. However they have a tough draw with Laura Siegemund from Germany and Scot Jamie Murray first up.

Venus has lost in two finals at the US Open to Murray – 2019 (Chan Hao-ching/Venus lost to Bethanie Mattek-Sands/Murray 6-2, 6-3), 2017 (Hao-ching/Venus lost to Martina Hings/Murray 6-1, 4-6, 10-8).
