Anton Shepp wins first professional title

Anton Shepp has won the doubles final of the ITF tournament in Ystad, Sweden, with his partner Oliver Johansson.

The Kiwi and the Swede Johansson, defeated Nikola Slavic, who is also from Sweden and Switzerland’s Luca Staeheli 6-0 6-2.

It was an emphatic win by Shepp and Johansson and their second match at this tournament where they only lost two games.

The 22-year-old Shepp lost in the second round of singles qualifying in Ystad at the clay court tournament.

But winning the doubles final makes this the first title at ITF level of Shepp’s young career.

Shepp, from Hamilton, attended the University of Nebraska, and has spent the last couple of months playing tournaments in Europe and Tunisia to build up his ranking.

Meanwhile, Reece Falk and Matthew Shearer lost a thrilling final in Huntsville, Alabama.

They were defeated 7-6(5) 7-6(5) by the American duo Braden Shick and Matthew Thomson.
