Venus, Skupski contnue winning run at Paris Masters

Friday, 01 November 2024

Michael Venus and Neal Skupski have advanced to the semifinals of the prestigious Paris Masters tournament following their 6-4 6-2 win over Robert Galloway from the United States and Uruguay’s Ariel Behar.

It took just over an hour for Venus and Skupski to win their quarterfinal match and secure their spot in the final four in Paris.

This was a match that Venus and Skupski played solid tennis throughout and looked like a team in good form.

There was just one break of serve in the opening set, even though Venus and Skupski had seven break points during it.

But the second set was less dominated by the serve, with Venus and Skupski getting broken once, but Galloway and Behar unable to hold serve on three occasions.

This victory makes it the second time in Venus’s career that he’s reached the semifinals of the Paris Masters.

In 2021 he won the tournament with his then partner Tim Puetz, from Germany. That was the only time Venus has won an ATP 1000 title in his career and since then he has twice lost in the final in Cincinnati.

For a place in this year’s final Venus and Skupski will need to defeat the tournament’s No 6 seeds Wesley Koolhof from the Netherlands and Croatia’s Nikola Mektic.

This semifinal is the first match on Court Central on Saturday, so will start at 11.30pm, New Zealand time.
