Venus and Routliffe in big ATP and WTA tournaments this week

Monday, 08 August 2022

New Zealand’s top two doubles players are back in ATP and WTA 1000 tournaments this week in Canada. Michael Venus and his German partner Tim Puetz are in action at the Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal where they are the 6th seeds. They have a tricky first up assignment from 5am tomorrow NZT where they take on Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz and Jan Zielinski. Hurkacz is ranked 11th in singles but is also a very good doubles player.

Erin Routliffe fresh from her title winning effort at the Citi Open in Washington DC with Jessica Pegula, has travelled to Toronto and has reunited with regular partner Alicja Rosolska. They face Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez whom they defeated in the first round of the French Open in May.

Routliffe is up to a career high of 29 in the WTA rankings following her win in Washington DC on Sunday.
