Venus and Murray advance in Madrid

Tuesday, 03 May 2022

8th seeds Michael Venus and British partner Jamie Murray are through to the second round of the men’s doubles at the Madrid Masters.

They’ve beaten Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas and his brother Petros in a thrilling opening round encounter.

Venus and Murry who are playing their second tournament together after reaching the semi finals last week in Estoril have prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 in an hour and 27 minutes.

Venus and Murray are playing together because the Kiwi’s regular partner Tim Puetz is still recovering from an ankle injury suffered at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Venus and Murray will next face former Kiwi, Britain’s Cameron Norrie and American Tommy Paul for a place in the quarter finals.
