The good run continues for Ajeet Rai
New Zealand’s Ajeet Rai has won the singles title at an ITF Men's World Tennis Tour M25 event in Cairns, Australia.
This is the second title in a few weeks for the 24-year-old Kiwi and the first M25 pro singles title in his career.
In late September he won the doubles title at an ITF Men's World Tennis Tour M25 event in Darwin.
This time Rai, who was seeded fourth in the tournament, overcame two Australian and two Japanese competitors to reach the final against Australia's Jeremy Beale.
Rai was winning the first set 3-2 when Beale retired.
The New Zealander also made it through to the doubles semi finals in Cairns, playing with Filip Peliwo from Poland.
Rai is currently ranked 305 in the world for doubles and 464 for singles.
He was part of the New Zealand Davis Cup team that beat Thailand in Invercargill in September.
Rai convincingly won his singles match against Thailand's Maximus Jones 6-1, 6-3.
