Semifinal spot secured for Erin Routlife, Gabby Dabrowski at Miami Open

Thursday, 28 March 2024

Erin Routliffe and Gabby Dabrowski have continued their winning ways at the Miami Open.

On Thursday (NZ time) the Kiwi/Canadian combination defeated the all-American team of Sloane Stephens and Ashlyn Kruger 6-3 4-6 10-4 in a quarterfinal match that lasted one hour, 21 minutes on Grandstand Court.

Routliffe and Dabrowski had to hang around two days after their second-round victory for other matches to be completed at the rain-interrupted tournament.

However, there appeared no signs of rust from the duo that won last year’s US Open as they managed to break their opponent’s serve three times in the opening set.

In the semifinals, Routliffe and Dabrowski will play against another all-American team of Asia Muhammad and Alycia Parks.

This is the second time in their last three WTA 1000 tournaments that Routliffe and Dabrowski have made it to the final four.

Although Routliffe can’t improve her current world ranking, despite what happens over the remainder of the Miami Open, it has further cemented her place inside the top five.

Routliffe’s chances of playing at this year’s Olympic Games are significantly boosted if she is in the top 10 by the end of the French Open in June.
