Routliffe bows out in Stuttgart but good results for Statham and Rai in Thailand
Erin Routliffe and her Polish partner Alicja Rosolska have been beaten in the quarter finals of the WTA Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. They’ve lost in straight sets 6-4 6-4 in an hour and 27 minutes to 4th seeds Hao-Ching Chan and Shuko Aoyama.
There were 10 breaks of serves in the match and Routliffe and Rosolska will be disappointed. They now have a few days off before heading to Madrid for the combined ATP/WTA Madrid Masters tournament, one of the biggest events on the clay court circuit.
Rubin Statham and Ajeet Rai are both through to the quarter finals at the ITF US $25,000 tournament in Chiang Rai in Thailand.
Rai has had a good 7-5, 7-6 (9) win over fourth seed Sidharth Rawat from India. The Kiwi has had some encouraging results in recent weeks reaching the semi finals last week and quarters two weeks ago.
Rai will face 7th seeded Russian Konstantin Kravchuk for a place in the semis.
Statham has beaten Japanese qualifier Shinji Hazawa 7-6 (5) 6-4 and will face 5th seeded Australian Dayne Kelly for a place in the semis.
