Mike Venus Joining NZ Premier League

Thursday, 04 June 2020

Michael Venus has been drafted into the NZ Premier League tennis competition and will join the competition from tomorrow (Friday). Venus will join the Rangitoto side as a replacement player after Sebastian Lavie was forced to withdraw from the competition overnight.

“Commentating at the event was lots of fun last night but I definitely missed being out on court. The opportunity to play alongside some great mates in NZ was too much for me to turn down.” said Venus.

Team coaches and league organizers agreed the opportunity to have NZ’s leading player take part is a big boost to the league and having Venus’s experience will add much to the training environment for young players.

“We have a great environment going on right now with so many of NZ’s best young players together in one place. Having the likes of Mike, Artem (Sitak) and Ben (McLachlan) sharing their experience from the tour means a lot.” said Tennis NZ Performance Director, Christophe Lambert.

Venus is set to take the court for his first match on Friday evening.  Watch his match live on Sky Sport NZ tv channel 9 starting at 6pm or on the Sky Sport Next YouTube channel.
