Good wins for Venus and Daniell at Rome Masters
Michael Venus and Marcus Daniell have both had opening round wins at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome overnight.
Venus and his Australian partner John Peers have won an extremely tight match against American Austin Krajicek and Austria’s Oliver Marach 7-6 (7) 7-6 (4) in 1 hour 46.
Venus and Peers reached the semi-finals in Rome last year. They face the winners of the match between third seeds Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Slovakia’s Filip Polasek and Australian Alex Di Minaur and German Jan Lennard Struff in the second round.
Marcus Daniell and his Austrian partner Philipp Oswald have completed a straight sets win 6-4 6-4 over India’s Rohan Bopanna and Canada’s Denis Shapovalov in 1 hour 11. Daniell and Oswald will face either the second seeded Croatians Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic or Chile’s Cristian Garin and Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the second round.
