Erin Routliffe and Gaby Dabrowski reach WTA 1000 final

Sunday, 24 September 2023

It was a hard-fought final for New Zealand's Erin Routliffe and her Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski at the GDL Open AKRON in Mexico this weekend.

The third-seeded combination were beaten by top seeds Storm Hunter (Australia) and Elise Mertens (Belgium) 6-3 4-6, 4-10 in the doubles final at the Guadalajara WTA 1000 tournament.

It was the first event since the victory at the US Open for Routliffe and Dabrowski and only their fifth in total as a partnership.

The finals finish in Guadalajara also gives 28-year-old Routliffe more than US$35,000 in prize-money and will move the Kiwi/Canadian duo closer to the year-end doubles finals.

Routliffe’s WTA doubles ranking has also improved from 20 to 15.
