Tennis NZ To Implement Points Race For ASB Classic Wildcards

Tennis New Zealand will continue to provide four wildcards to New Zealand players at the ASB Classic, but is changing the way they are allocated.
A total of four wildcards will be on offer: one main draw and one qualifying draw in both the men's and women's tournaments. But instead of an end-of-year tournament, we will award the wildcards to the players who have earned the most points across their eight best tournaments of the year.
Here’s how it works:
The wildcards will be allocated on the basis of the ATP/WTA points achieved from the players' eight best events across the year.
The player with the most points out of their top eight events will receive the wildcard into the main draw of the ASB Classic, while the player with the second highest will receive the qualifying draw wildcard.
There are two wildcards available for the men’s tournament and two for the women’s tournament.
Note: If a player receives direct entry into the tournament, the wildcards will move to the next players in line.
We will display the current state of the points race with all players who have earned an ATP/WTA point, and update these standings throughout the year.
