Junior Training Camps
Tennis New Zealand delivers a series of national camps designed to accelerate the development of New Zealand’s most promising players.
These camps bring together selected athletes from across the country to train, compete, and learn in a high-performance environment led by national coaches and experts.
Whether preparing for international tours, refining technical and tactical skills, or connecting with the wider tennis pathway, National Camps are a vital part of our athlete development strategy.
Purpose Of The Camps
Tennis New Zealand’s National Camps are designed to bring together the country’s top-performing athletes to train, challenge, and elevate one another in a competitive environment.
Key objectives include:
- Training with the Best: Camps unite leading players from across the country, creating an environment where athletes push each other to raise their level.
- Performance Benchmarking: Players participate in match play and performance testing that helps track development and guide future training.
- Physical and Movement Screening: Athletes undergo screening sessions led by qualified practitioners, providing valuable insights to inform personalised physical development plans when they return home.
- Alignment with the National Pathway: Camps support connection between athletes, personal coaches, and Tennis New Zealand High Performance staff to ensure shared goals and training continuity.
- Off-Court Development: Education sessions build knowledge around mental skills, nutrition, recovery, and other performance pillars.
Camp Format and Content
Each camp is tailored to the needs of the player group and may include:
- On-Court Training: Tactical and technical sessions led by Tennis NZ coaches.
- Match Play Blocks: Competitive match practice with coach feedback.
- Strength, Conditioning and Recovery Sessions: Delivered by qualified strength and conditioning coaches.
- Workshops: Topics may include goal setting, tour planning, injury prevention, mental skills, and more.
- Coach and Parent Engagement: Where possible, personal coaches and parents are included to support alignment and understanding.
