Venus + Murray are through to the doubles quarterfinals in Rome

Monday, 15 May 2023

Michael Venus + Jamie Murray are through to the doubles quarter finals at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome.

They had a big first round win last night against the 2022 French Open champions Jean-Julien Rojer and Marcelo Arévalo (7-6, 4-6, 10-2).

That first set was hard-fought and back and forth, culminating in an equally tight tiebreak, with Michael and Jamie eventually coming out on top.

The Kiwi/British pairing then had a walkover victory in round two overnight against Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev.

They are through to the quarters of this ATP Masters 1000 event on clay, with the second Grand Slam of the year just around the corner.

On the women's side, Kiwi Erin Routliffe + Alexa Guarachi lost in the round of 32 against the 6th seeds Aoyama + Shibahara (Japan). Tomorrow the pair will play their opening round at the Firenze Ladies Open.
