Venus and Puetz beaten in Cincinnati quarter finals

Friday, 20 August 2021

Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah have gained a measure of revenge over Michael Venus, beating the Kiwi and his German doubles partner Tim Puetz in the quarter finals of the Cincinnati Masters.

Venus and Marcus Daniell beat the third seeds enroute to winning Bronze at the Tokyo Olympics last month. But today Venus and Puetz have been beaten 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour 29. It was a match in which Venus and Puetz could have won. They had eight break point chances but only converted one. The Colombians took three of their five break point chances to secure the win. Venus and Puetz will now head to New York to prepare for the US Open.

Meanwhile Marcus Daniell and Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner have got into the main draw at the ATP 250 tournament in Winston Salem next week. They were originally the third alternates, but player withdrawals have seen them get into the field.
