Venus and Puetz beat Tsitsipas brothers in Hamburg

Michael Venus and his German partner Tim Puetz are through to the second round of the doubles at the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg. Returning to clay following Wimbledon, Venus and Puetz have beaten French Open runner up Stefanos Tsitsipas and his brother Petros 7-5 7-6 in 2 hour 41.

The second seeds will face Serbian’s Filip Krajinovic and Dusan Lajovic in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile Marcus Daniell and Artem Sitak have both been beaten in their respective ATP 250 tournaments in Newport in the US and Bastad in Sweden. In Newport on grass Daniell and Ben McLachlan who is from Queenstown but plays for Japan have lost 7-5 6-3 in 1 hour 6 to Canadian Vasek Pospisil and American Austin Krajicek.

In Bastad in Sweden, Sitak and Venezuela’s Luis David Martinez have been beaten 6-1 6-4 by the Dutch pair of Sander Arends and David Pel.
