Venus and Puetz advance in Halle

Michael Venus and his German partner Tim Puetz are through to the second round at the ATP 500 tournament in Halle in Germany.

The third seeds have beaten Italian Simone Bolelli and Dutchman Matwe Middelkoop 7-6 (3) 6-4 in an hour and 27 minutes. Venus and Puetz will next face former French Open champions, German’s Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies for a place in the semi finals.

Meanwhile Artem Sitak and his Indian partner Divij Sharan have been beaten in the first round of the Ilkley Challenger tournament in England.

 They have lost 6-4 6-3 to French pair Constant Lestienne and Lucas Pouille.
