Routliffe, Dabrowski edged out in Rome quarterfinals

Wednesday, 14 May 2025

Erin Routliffe and Gaby Dabrowski have lost 6-2 4-6 11-9 in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open to Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider.

Routliffe and Dabrowski had three match points in the third-set super tiebreak, but were unable to clinch them and eventually lost a nail biter.

The match lasted just short of an hour and a half and was a thrilling battle between the two evenly matched teams, with Routliffe and Dabrowski, the tournament’s top seeds, bouncing back after losing the first set.

Routliffe and Dabrowski had opportunities to win in a super tiebreak that could have gone either way, but the Russian pair snuck through in the end and will advance to the semifinals.

Routliffe will remain at No 3 in the world rankings.

Meanwhile, Lulu Sun and her French partner Varvara Gracheva lost 6-3 6-1 to the top seeded American duo Desirae Krawczyk and Nicole Melichar in the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Paris.
