Routliffe and Daniell start their seasons with wins

Erin Routliffe and her Canadian superstar partner Leylah Fernandez have won a tough opening match at the WTA 500 tournament in Adelaide.

The unseeded pair who reached the third round at the US Open at their only previous tournament together, have beaten the Chinese pair of Xu Yfan and Yang Zhaoxuan7-6 (4) 4-6 10-7 in the first round. The match lasted 1 hour 51. Routliffe and Fernandez will next face world number one singles player Ash Barty and her fellow Aussie Storm Sanders.

Marcus Daniell teaming up with American Denis Kudla has had a very good win, 7-6 (4) 6-3 over American’s Reilly Opelka and MacKenzie McDonald in the first round of the ATP tournament in Melbourne. Daniell and Kudla will play 5th seeds Ken Skupski and Dominic Inglot from Britain in the second round.

Michael Venus playing with India’s Yuki Bhambri has been beaten 6-4 -6-4 by Talon Griekspoor and Andreas Vavassori in 1 hour and 5 minutes in their first round match in Melbourne.
