New Zealand vs Uruguay Davis Cup Tie to be Played in Las Vegas

Wednesday, 26 January 2022

Tennis NZ has confirmed its home Davis Cup World Group 1 Play-off tie, to be held on 4 & 5 March, will be played at the Darling Tennis Centre, Las Vegas.

A neutral host country was required to due to NZ’s current border closure to non-residents. This is the second successive New Zealand home tie to be played in the USA, after its most recent tie in September was held at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Rhode Island.

Tennis NZ High Performance Director Christophe Lambert said “Obviously it’s disappointing to once again miss out on playing in front of a home crowd, and we hope it’s for the last time, but Las Vegas will make for an excellent location to host Uruguay. The Darling Tennis Centre is a fantastic venue, and we hope a few Kiwi’s in the area will come along to support us”.

With a handful of players expected to head to Indian Wells the week after the tie, the short travel distance will be advantageous. Several players in line for selection for the New Zealand team are already in the USA, competing either in professional events or on the College circuit.

The NZ team for the event will be announced later in February and will be captained for the first time by Kelly Evernden, who was appointed to the role earlier this month.
