New Zealand starts their campaign at the ITF 16u Teams Events

The New Zealand Junior Billie Jean King Cup girls team consisting of Aishi Das (Auckland), Lucia Gale (Canterbury) and Yashwitha Thummala (Auckland) with Captain Emily Fanning had a winning start to their first round of pool play.

The NZ team beat Iran 2-1 in the first round in 30 degree heat. They now face Uzbekistan and top seeds China. The top two teams of each pool advance into the quarterfinal stages. Click here for full draws and results.

The New Zealand Junior Davis Cup boys team consisting of Cody Atkinson (based in Queensland), Dan Milburn (Southern) and Jack Hansen-Ratter (Canterbury) with Captain Artem Sitak have been training in Queensland before their arrival to Kazakhstan. The Junior Davis Cup starts Monday following the Junior Billie Jean King Cup.

The events are being held on clay in Shymkent, Kazakhstan with the 16 nations vying for a top four finish to reach the World Junior Cup finals.

These 14u equivalent events were held in March in Malaysia, with the NZ girls team of Yashwith Thummala, Una Misic and Rosalie Pollyn and Captain Chris Bint finishing 10th after drawing a tough pool with top seeds Japan, China and Singapore. Click here for full results.

The NZ 14u boys team of Alvin Na, Noa Milburn, Maz Dowker and captain Dave Knight, reached the quarterfinals stage before a loss to Thailand and eventually finishing in 7th place. Click here for full results.
