Lulu Sun qualifies for main draw in Guangzhou
Lulu Sun has made it through qualifying at the WTA 250 tournament in Guangzhou, China.
The Kiwi No 1 defeated Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah from France 6-2 6-2 in the second round of qualifying on Monday.
Coincidentally, it took exactly the same amount of time for Sun to beat Li Yuyao in the first round of qualifying.
Unusually for Sun, she didn’t serve any aces, but she wasn’t broken and took four games off Rakotomanga Rajaonah’s serve.
This was Sun’s 11th win in 13 matches since the US Open.
By making it into the main draw, Sun will play her first WTA 250 tournament since Eastbourne in June, when she defeated the then world No 16, Daria Kasatkina from Australia.
Once qualifying is completed, the winners will be placed into the main draw.
The tournament’s top two seeds, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Ann Li have both been drawn against qualifiers in the opening round.
