Lulu Sun has big win in Abu Dhabi WTA 500 tournament

Lulu Sun has picked up her first victory of the season with an impressive 6-1 6-3 victory over Caroline Garcia from France at the WTA 500 tournament in Abu Dhabi.

The New Zealand No 1 has struggled with results since returning from injury at the end of last season, but against Garcia she was able regain her form with a victory in one hour, 15 minutes.

Garcia, who went three sets with Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open a few weeks ago, had her serve broken four times in the opening set and although the second set was more competitive, she dropped her serve again.

Sun’s serve improved over the match, winning 87.5% of the points in the second set when she got her first serve in.

In the second round Sun will play the winner of the match between Leylah Fernandez from Canada, the tournament’s No 7 seed, and Japan’s Moyuka Uchijma.
