Lulu Sun cruises into second round in Jingshan, China

Lulu Sun has won her first round match at the WTA 125 tournament in Jingshan, China, defeating Tyra Grant from Italy 6-3 6-2.
It is Sun’s first tournament since reaching the second round at the US Open and she has decided to play this tournament in Eastern China to pick up some valuable ranking points.
Grant is a highly regarded 17-year-old, who is ranked 213 in the world and defeated Queen’s champion Tatjana Maria earlier this year.
But she was no match for Sun on this occasion, with the Kiwi dominating with her serve.
Sun sent down six aces over the match and double faulted just twice, she also converted three of the seven break points she had.
Sun also won 87 per cent of the points when she got her first serve in (her season average is 67 per cent), she also won 70 per cent of the points on her second serve.
In the next round Sun will play against Wu Ru from China. The 17-year-old Wu doesn’t yet have a world ranking and was given a wildcard to play in this tournament.
Sun is also playing doubles in Jingshan. She has teamed up with Britain’s Jodie Burrage. In the first round they’ve been drawn against Arianne Hartono from the Netherlands and India’s Prarthana Thombare.
