Hourigan survives a scare to reach quarter finals

Thursday, 08 April 2021

New Zealand women's number one Paige Hourigan has had to dig deep to keep her winning run going in Egypt overnight. The 24 year old who won last week's ITF US $15,000 tournament in Sharm El Sheikh, has battled into the quarter finals of this week's event at the same venue.
Hourigan has beaten Romania's Elena Teodora Cadar 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) saving a match point when her opponent was trying to serve out the match.
It really was a topsy turvey match with the Romanian racing to a 5-love lead in the first set before Hourigan rallied. The Kiwi had to fight back from breaks down in the deciding set too.
The fourth seeded Hourigan is first on court tonight (8pm NZT) for her quarter final tonight against fourth seeded Czech Anna Siskova, the player she beat in last weekend's final.
Next week Hourigan heads to Tunisia for three weeks of ITF tournaments there.
