Australian Open campaign over for Routliffe and Venus

Tuesday, 25 January 2022

It’s been a tough day at the office for Michael Venus at the Australian Open in Melbourne. A couple of hours after bowing out of the men’s doubles with his German partner Tim Puetz, Venus and Kiwi mixed doubles partner Erin Routliffe have lost their quarter final.

They have been well beaten 6-4, 6-2 by Croatian Ivan Dodig and Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic with the match taking 1 hour and 6 minutes.

There was just the one break of serve in the opening set with Routliffe losing her first service game.

However, in the second set Venus and Routliffe just couldn’t get going and dropped serve twice as Mladenovic and Dodig cruised to a comfortable win.
