We Are Back!

The Tennis NZ Coaches Conference will be held at the ASB Classic on Monday 6th January 2025, and we would love for you and your colleagues to be a part of this marquee event on the Coach Development calendar.

The conference will combine professional development, networking, and a chance to watch world-class tennis with like-minded coaches from across New Zealand.

We have an exciting set of speakers lined up, headlined by the legendary Wayne Goldsmith - with years of experience working across multiple sports, Wayne will bring insights and knowledge to all coaches. 

Plus, our second speaker is Mikael Tillström! Currently Gael Monfils' coach, we're wrapped to have such a top level coach lead a session at the 2025 ASB Classic Coaches Conference!

We've also added Dr Julia Casadio, a sport physiologist, applied researcher and performance consultant with over 15 years of experience in elite sport. 

Plus, Jason McKenzie, a member of the NZ Olympic Psychology Team, and renowned performance mindset coach.

And our 5th speaker just announced - Craig McGrath. Current Auckland Blues Assistant Coach & Former Head Coach of Auckland's NPC rugby team. Craig brings a wealth of experience from his time as a player-coach within international and national rugby.

Speaker Lineup

Wayne Goldsmith

International sports coaching expert, Wayne Goldsmith has influenced the coaching, thinking and teaching of some of the world’s leading athletes, coaches and teams.

His client list includes professional sports teams, Olympic athletes and coaches all over the world.

Mikael Tillström

Currently the coach of Gael Monfils, Mikael has also worked with Grigor Dimitrov and Maria Sakkari. He's a x2 time Davis Cup Champion as a player hilmself, reaching the #15 world ranking in doubles, and #39 in singles. He's a dedicated coach, in 2011 he founded the Good To Great Tennis Academy.

Dr Julia Casadio

Dr Julia Casadio is a sport physiologist, applied researcher and performance consultant with over 15 years of experience in elite sport. Julia has worked with High Performance Sport New Zealand for over a decade, contributing to Olympic medal-winning campaigns across multiple sports.

Her PhD research focused on innovative applications of heat training to boost elite athletic performance, and she spearheaded New Zealand’s heat strategies for the Rio and Tokyo Olympics.

Building on her passion for supporting female athletes, Julia’s latest project, Her Strength, is an online learning platform dedicated to supporting coaches of adolescent female athletes. Her Strength provides tools and strategies for understanding puberty's impact on training, recovery, and nutrition. 

Jason McKenzie

A passionate Southlander, Jason McKenzie  spent 10 years as a secondary school teacher, school counsellor and working in private practice as a counsellor. In the past 17 years he has have worked in High Performance sport in Athlete Life and Mental Skills roles (from talent development to elite) with a focus on wellbeing, personal development, and performance skills. He enjoys working with athletes to manage the pressures of life and performance.

Craig McGrath

Current Auckland Blues Assistant Coach, Former Head Coach Auckland NPC
Craig had a stint as a player-coach in Ireland after playing in Italy, before switching full-time to coaching. He was an assistant coach with the Melbourne Rebels for four seasons and then with the Honda HEAT in Japan for three years, joining the Auckland NPC coaching staff with responsibility for defence and skills development in 2020. Since then, he took on the Head Coaching role at Auckland, and as an Assistant with the Auckland Blues. Craig has a wealth of knowledge and experience about performing at the highest level and will share insights around empathy-based coaching and how that relates to building a high performing coaching team.
