River City Tennis is looking for an energetic, organised, and experienced Head Coach to lead and grow tennis in the Whanganui region. This is an outstanding opportunity for a coach who loves working with junior players, can confidently deliver performance and adult programmes, and wants to stay actively involved in competitive tennis.

Role Overview
Position: Head Coach – Junior & Senior Development

Location: Whanganui Tennis Club / Whanganui Region

Type: Contractor (with potential future partnership in the coaching business)

Pay: $30–$50 per hour (experience dependent)

Hours: 20–40 hours per week (flexible, based on availability)

Start Date: September 2026

Schedule:

● Heavier coaching load from September–April

● Reduced hours from May–August

● Some evening and weekend work (Monday–Saturday, occasional Sundays)


Key Responsibilities

● Lead and deliver high-quality coaching programmes across:

● Junior development and pathways

● Performance squads

● Adult coaching (group and individual)

● Plan and run engaging group and individual sessions, including larger groups.

● Support player development pathways across the region in collaboration with River City Tennis and Tennis Whanganui.

● Actively engage schools and community programmes to grow participation.

● Maintain clear, professional communication with players, parents, clubs, and stakeholders.

● Assist with the coordination of competitions, holiday programmes, and events.

● Represent Tennis Whanganui in regional competitions if selected.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications Essential:

● Minimum 3 years’ coaching experience, primarily with junior players and development pathways.

● Competitive playing background at least at regional level.

● Minimum coaching qualification:

● Tennis Australia Development Coach (Level 1) or equivalent.

● Confident and competent running sessions independently, including larger groups.

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

● Positive, professional, and solution-focused approach with a strong work ethic.

● Availability to work Monday–Saturday, with occasional Sundays as required.

● Restricted NZ driver lisence minimum and reliable transport.

● Legal right to work in New Zealand. Desirable:

● Higher coaching qualifications (e.g. Club Professional or equivalent).

● Current First Aid certificate.

● Experience building programmes and growing club membership/participation.

Blair O’Brien Tennis is seeking to appoint a full time tennis coach to replace a coach who is leaving Auckland. With 9 courts and over 650 members, this is a special opportunity to be part of one of the biggest clubs in Auckland’s North Harbour and all of New Zealand.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide and maintain high quality individual and group coaching at all levels of the game.
  • Manage all on-court aspects involved with junior and senior coaching programmes including assisting junior coaches.
  • Communicate effectively with the club and head coach, players and parents in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work with a team of coaches towards a shared goal.
  • Provide a safe, fun and inclusive environment for all lessons and the club’s general community.
  • Ability and willingness to restring racquets is desirable but not essential.
  • Available to work a minimum of 5 days a week, ideally including Saturday mornings.

Personal Attributes:

  • Willingness to collaborate on courses and coach with a play based approach.
  • A high level of personal integrity and pride in their work, being motivated and willing to learn, honest and reliable, display initiative and able to work in a team.
  • A passion for tennis and coaching, including enhancing the community spirit of the club.
  • Hold strong interpersonal and communication skills for all age groups.
  • Sound English skills.
  • You must be eligible to work in New Zealand, and complete a New Zealand police check.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Junior Development Coach qualification, or international equivalent or higher
  • Comprehensive knowledge the Tennis NZ Hot Shots and Tennis Xpress programmes.
  • Minimum two years coaching experience for all ages.
  • Strong tennis playing background.

Tennis One NZ, based at the beautiful Mission Bay Tennis Club, is seeking a passionate and experienced Junior Development Coach to join our dynamic team.

Key Requirements:

- A minimum of 3 years of experience coaching junior players, with a strong focus on development pathways.

- Proven ability to engage and inspire young players, fostering their love for the game while improving their technical and tactical skills.

- Strong communication skills to effectively connect with players, parents, and fellow coaching staff.

- Availability to work during after-school hours, weekends, and school holidays to accommodate junior coaching programs.

- A relevant coaching qualification and a current first aid certificate are preferred.

Responsibilities:

- Deliver high-quality coaching sessions tailored to junior players of varying skill levels, from beginners to competitive athletes.

- Assist in developing and implementing structured coaching plans aligned with Tennis One NZ's development philosophy.

- Actively contribute to junior tournaments, holiday programs, and club events.

- Provide mentorship and encouragement to junior players, helping them achieve their personal and competitive goals.

What We Offer:

- Minimum $27 per hour and Maximum $45 per hour with a minimum of 30 hours per week and maximum 40 hours per week.
