Coach Connect
Coaches Courses - 2026
So far this year the coaching calendar has seen two Coach Assistant Coaching courses delivered, hosted by Tennis Northern and Tennis Capital Coast. Approximately (25) coaches took their first step toward recognised coaching qualifications, important safeguarding and fundamental understanding of tennis through the ITF academy platform.
The following clubs can congratulate their new coaches and look forward to extended coaching opportunities for their players:
Tennis Northern - Northcote, Mairangi Bay, Glenfield, Kaipara Flats/Matakana, West Harbour, Gladstone and Parnell tennis clubs
Tennis Capital Coast - Kilbirnie, Island Bay, Kapiti Coast, Whanganui, Johnsonville, Karori, Paraparaumu, Renouf Centre tennis clubs
Both clubs and regions play a crucial role in identifying, promoting and supporting coaches to achieve qualifications. It is pleasing to see so many clubs encouraging coaches of all ages to grow their skills.
Blind and Low Vision (BLV) Clinic - February 2026 Clinic
In collaboration with 'Blind Sport NZ' Tennis NZ delivered its first coaching clinic focused specifically on coaches assisting, facilitating or coaching this ever-growing community of players. An initial webinar and one day in-person clinic provided coaches an insight into the considerations involved with coaching players who are blind or have low vision impairments. BLV programmes now run at 3 venues in Auckland with participants growing each week.
A big thank you to Chelsea Otto (Blind Sport NZ) who assisted in the facilitation of the clinic. Tennis NZ aims to continue to develop this initial pilot clinic and introduce the concept to other regions throughout NZ.
Coach Development Plan - Consultation Phase
Shortly Tennis NZ will begin the process of consulting with a wide range of stakeholders to gain valuable insights which will help to form the key pillars of coach development. Our aim is to build a long term 'Coach Development Plan' to guide and contextualize future goals, objectives, and highlight 'key' activities to benefit every level of our game.
